A few minutes north of Yalikavak, this is a place that can be really called peaceful. The hard-to-pronounce name means day rise in Turkish. This fast-growing village is definitely on the rise. One of the top hotels in Turkey has just been built overlooking the bay. Surrounded by towering outcrops of rock it has some of the most dramatic scenery on the peninsula.
Here in the North of the peninsula there is often a fresh breeze so it is ideal for windsurfing.
Nearby Big Rabbit Island (Buyuktavsan Adasi) is the site of a Byzantine monastic church with visible remains of frescoes estimated to date from the ninth century.
Over the past few years the many streams that fed down to the sea here have been bridged and a promenade linked by pretty bridges has developed. There are good restaurants and trendy bars all along it but this remains essentially a family place.
