WHERE TO VISIT

Temple of ApollonApollon-temple2
The massive columns of the Apollo Temple were erected by people who lived 7-8 centuries before Christ and who did not yet know how to mix sand, pebbles and cement to make plaster. However they have been standing for almost 3000 years. You are in the third greatest temple of the ancient world. That temple is the architectural twin of the Artemision, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Artemision cannot be seen anymore, but the Apollo Temple still exists with all its majestisy. Besides, if you are in Didim around the time there's a festival, you can even watch a concert here in the evening. Didim is very advantageously positioned. In fact, many settlements of the ancient world are close enough to visit by daily trips

Priene :
The ancient harbor cPriene-theatreity of Priene probably changed its location when the silt of the Meander River threatened to bury it. Now it is nearly 16 km / 10 mi from the sea. The original place of the city has never been found but it was probably a peninsula with two harbors. Priene was laid out on a Hippodamian system of grid plan at the foot of a spectacular cliff on Mount Mycale and contained many famous examples of Hellenistic art and architecture. All the streets intersect at right angles. Remaining small with about 4 or 5 thousand inhabitants and never of great political significance it shared the same history as the other Ionian cities.

Miletus

The ancient city of Miletus (city of the philosophers) is known as theMiletus-theatre1 first city to which the principles of modern town-planning were applied. As a result of the silting caused by the alluvium washed down by the Meander the city now lies at a distance of several kilometres from the sea. The fact that Miletus formerly possessed four separate harbours well indicates the important role The Meander played in the history of the city. The Miletus alphabet was accepted as the normal script employed in writing ancient Greek. The following are a few of the philosophical views put forward by Milesian philosophers:
"Beauty arises not from a beautiful body but from beautiful actions."
"The skillful man is superior to the strong man."
"A small spark is enough to burn down a whole forest."
